Awards Core Committee (ACC)

Charge

  • The ACC assesses and oversees the AAI awards program. The ACC is dedicated to recognizing outstanding achievement by and the professional promise of AAI members in the field of immunology.
  • The ACC is responsible for reviewing nominations/applications and recommending candidates for AAI awards; evaluating current offerings and processes to ensure that the awards portfolio is reflective of the field as a whole and meets the needs of the membership and organization; and ensuring that the pool of nominees and recipients is reflective of the field as a whole, representing the diversity of backgrounds and interests across AAI membership.

Composition
The committee consists of a maximum of 15 members, including the Chair, elected by a process approved by the Council. Committee members serve three-year terms, staggered so that one third of the members are new each year.

Examples of Ongoing Work

  • ACC members will review awards as assigned and recommend candidates for these honors. Award responsibilities may shift as the AAI awards portfolio changes to ensure optimal representation of  members and the field.
  • ACC members review career award nominations and recommend candidates to Council (generally in October-November).
  • ACC members review select travel award applications and finalize recipients (generally in January-February).
  • ACC members evaluate current award offerings and processes to ensure that they are reflective of the field as a whole and meet the needs of the membership and organization. The committee will recommend any changes with rationale to the AAI Council for their review and consideration.
  • The ACC may consult with other committees or groups to benefit from their expertise, including for review of nominations, evaluation of the awards portfolio, or consideration of new awards.
  • This committee embodies the principle that diverse voices enrich and advance science. The committee partners with BECC to ensure that the breadth of the immunology community is represented among event and program participants.

Expected Member Time Commitment

  • Members are expected to participate in 1-2 virtual committee meetings per year.
  • Asynchronous award review is estimated to take 2-4 hours per month during key review months. Other ongoing work throughout the year may take 1-2 hours per month.
  • ACC members are expected to serve a 3-year term.
  • ACC members are encouraged to attend the AAI Annual Meeting to see final award lectures and presentations.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • ACC members should have broad knowledge of immunology.
