Publications Core Committee (PCC)

  • The PCC provides strategic oversight of the AAI journals by establishing policies, managing editorial leadership, and guiding innovations to improve the quality, reach, and impact of The Journal of Immunology (The JI) andImmunoHorizons (IH).
  • The PCC oversees the recruitment and manages the performance of the Editors-in- Chief (EICs) and editorial boards and recommends improvements to editorial practices to enhance the reach and influence of the journals.
  • The PCC engages in collaborative and forward-looking efforts to align journal practices with emerging trends and opportunities in scholarly publishing.
  • The PCC regularly assesses AAI’s scholarly publications portfolio and makes any recommendations to enhance AAI’s visible connection to, and use of, this valuable asset.

Composition
The committee consists of a maximum of 15 members, including the Chair, appointed by a process approved by the Council. Committee members serve three-year terms, staggered so that one-third of the members are new each year.

Examples of Ongoing Work

  • OUP Partnership Performance Review. The PCC will perform an annual assessment of Oxford University Press (OUP) publishing partnership. When appropriate, the PCC will provide a recommendation for contract renewal or renegotiation.
  • Editorial Board Diversity. The PCC will annually evaluate the makeup and diversity of The Journal of Immunology's editorial board. This assessment will consider both the scientific requirements and the representation aligned with the journal’s author pool.
  • EIC Performance. The PCC will deliver an annual performance review of the EICs by March 31 each year.
  • EIC Recommendation. The PCC will develop job descriptions, selection criteria, and shortlist interview candidates for the EIC positions of The JI and IH. The PCC will then conduct interviews with candidates and recommend suitable EIC candidates for appointment to the AAI Council.
  • This committee embodies the principle that diverse voices enrich and advance science. The committee partners with BECC to ensure that the breadth of the immunology community is represented among event and program participants.

Expected Member Time Commitment

  • Members are expected to participate in 1-2 virtual committee meetings annually, and to attend an in-person Editorial Boards dinner at the AAI Annual Meeting.
  • Asynchronous and potential subcommittee work is estimated 1-2 hours per month.
  • PCC members are expected to serve a 3-year term.
